POV- 7 in the morning, your alarm goes off. Usually, you like to take a shower, get dressed, and have breakfast, but this particular morning you decide to hit the snooze. You finally force yourself out of bed and look at the time...you have 10 minutes before school starts. Panicked, you get dressed, grab your bag and rush out the door.
Let’s face it, we’ve all had a situation like this happen and likely more than once. Alone it sounds innocent, but when done repeatedly it can prove to be problematic. Waking up in such a rush can leave a person in a sort of frenzy for the rest of the day making it hard to accomplish certain tasks.
This is only one example of this kind of put-off attitude that can override your motivation to get things done. (i.e. not- going to class, doing homework, studying for exams, etc.) This "put-offness" can be an addictive attribute that can be difficult to conquer. So how can you get over it and be motivated again?
Well, to be honest it can be kind of hard, but similar to cleaning your room, you want to start with the little things. In order to get motivated you have to be passionate about something. It doesn't necessarily mean good grades, it can be something as simple as being excited for summer. But, by having a positive or upbeat attitude it can make it easier to have a drive to get things done. A way to be upbeat is making sure you make a little time for yourself. Taking breaks and doing stuff for you because it's something you want to do will keep you productive and not feel as drained when it's time to do something that is required of you. Examples of this could include walking your dog, cooking dinner, going to the gym, taking a relaxing shower, etc.
What can also help boost your motivation drive is scheduling something after your required tasks. This will give you something to look forward to and help you feel like your day is still yours. These things don't have to be very big in order to make you feel happy. I suggest planning stuff like watching a TV series, playing a video game, hanging out with friends, having a game night with your family, the list could go on. You can also plan bigger events after completing big projects like going to the movies, an arcade, a concert, an amusement park, the beach, and so on.
By making sure you have your own time it makes it a little easier to do things like homework and study. Motivation can be hard to obtain when you're feeling overwhelmed, but by scheduling time for yourself it can make it easier to not feel that way. Finally, by having a positive outlook life can seem a little less taxing and a little more enjoyable.
